Frosinone Agree Deal to Sign Super Eagles Defender Kevin Akpoguma

Super Eagles defender Kevin Akpoguma is set to continue his career in Italy after newly promoted Serie A side Frosinone reached an agreement to sign the experienced centre-back following his departure from Hoffenheim.

According to Italian transfer specialist Gianluca Di Marzio, Frosinone have completed negotiations with the 31-year-old defender. The club is expected to announce the details of his contract in the coming days, with the move marking the start of a new chapter in Akpoguma's career.

Akpoguma leaves Hoffenheim after spending more than 13 years with the Bundesliga club. He joined Hoffenheim from Karlsruher SC in 2013 and gradually established himself as a reliable member of the first team after loan spells with Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hannover 96.

During his time at Hoffenheim, the Nigerian international made well over 200 appearances across all competitions and became one of the club's most experienced defenders. However, his role diminished during the 2025/26 season under head coach Christian Ilzer, with injuries and increased competition limiting him to just nine appearances before his contract expired this summer.

The move to Frosinone offers Akpoguma the opportunity to revive his career with regular first-team football as the club prepares for life back in Serie A. The newly promoted side will rely on his experience and defensive leadership as they aim to retain their top-flight status during the 2026/27 campaign.

Akpoguma will also become one of several Nigerian players featuring in Italy's top division next season. He is expected to reunite with fellow Super Eagles player Akor Adams, who recently completed a move to newly promoted Venezia, adding to Nigeria's growing representation in Serie A.

Born in Germany, Akpoguma represented the country at youth level before switching his international allegiance to Nigeria in 2020. He made his Super Eagles debut later that year and has earned eight senior international caps. His most recent appearance for Nigeria came in June 2023.

With a wealth of experience gained in the Bundesliga, Akpoguma will hope to make an immediate impact in Italian football while also strengthening his chances of returning to the Super Eagles squad ahead of future international competitions.
