Frank Onyeka interested in Osimhen’s Premier League move, linked clubs

Posted : 08 March 2024

Brentford FC midfielder Frank Onyeka has openly expressed his wish for Napoli forward Victor Osimhen to make a move to the English Premier League amid increasing interest from top European clubs.

Victor Osimhen, the Nigerian football star, gained widespread recognition for his exceptional performance with Gli Azzurri during the 2022-23 Serie A season, contributing significantly to their first Serie A title in 33 years.

Under the guidance of manager Luciano Spalleti, Osimhen showcased his prowess by scoring 31 goals and providing 5 assists in 39 appearances throughout the campaign. His stellar performance has attracted attention from renowned clubs such as Manchester United and Chelsea.

In a recent interview with Sky Sports, Onyeka was questioned about the possibility of sharing the field with his compatriot, who has been heavily linked with a Premier League move. Light-heartedly, Onyeka jokingly remarked that Osimhen might be too expensive for Brentford, stating, "No, no, no! He's too expensive!"

Further elaborating on Osimhen's qualities, Onyeka highlighted his competitive spirit and commitment to winning. He emphasized Osimhen's determination, stating, "He's a really good guy but he's someone that wants to win. He doesn't like to lose, even in training. He always wants to push players around him, try to encourage them. He's a fighter."

Onyeka believes that Osimhen's contributions at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations were underrated, praising his relentless efforts for the team even when not scoring many goals.

"He's always there to help the team, fight for the team. Even when the team is down, he'll be the first man to push the team. He never gives up. For me, he was one of the best players in the tournament, but people don't really see what he does," he added.

While Osimhen's release clause currently stands at 130 million euros, potentially raising Financial Fair Play concerns for clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United, Onyeka remains optimistic about his compatriot securing a move to the Premier League. He expressed hope that they might face each other as opponents in the league.

"Hopefully, he comes to the Premier League," Onyeka expressed, as Osimhen continues to feature in Napoli's squad, aiming to maintain his impressive form.
