Francis Onyeka Extends Bayer Leverkusen Contract Prior to SV Elversberg Loan Switch

Posted : 16 June 2026

German Bundesliga heavyweights Bayer 04 Leverkusen have secured the long-term future of highly-rated midfielder Francis Onyeka. The 19-year-old sensation signed a contract extension keeping him tied to the club until June 2032. The club also confirmed that the youngster will spend the upcoming campaign on a season-long loan at newly-promoted top-flight side SV 07 Elversberg.

The versatile attacking midfielder is coming off a highly productive breakthrough campaign. He spent last season on loan with VfL Bochum in the second division, establishing himself as a top young talent. The Nigerian-born youngster contributed eight goals and provided one assist across 30 league appearances to help his temporary team.

Onyeka's brilliant performances generated significant interest from several clubs across the country during the transfer window. However, Elversberg won the race for his signature as they look to build a squad capable of avoiding relegation. The Bundesliga newcomers view the teenager as a critical addition to inject creativity into their offensive structure.

Speaking to the official club media channels, Onyeka expressed massive joy regarding his long-term contract extension. He described the new agreement with Leverkusen as an honor and a major source of career motivation. He stated that he feels very excited to prove his worth every weekend at the highest level.

The rising star also reaffirmed his dream of eventually establishing himself as a regular starter for the parent club. Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes praised the youngster, noting that they are delighted by his commitment. The German youth international originally joined the Leverkusen academy system at seven years old.
