Former West Ham United player suggests Liverpool swap Nunez

Posted : 29 April 2024

Former West Ham United star Nigel Reo-Coker believes that either Victor Osimhen or Victor Boniface would bring more value to Liverpool than striker Darwin Nunez. Despite Nunez's 11 goals in the Premier League this season, Reo-Coker feels the Uruguayan forward has missed several opportunities due to poor finishing, potentially limiting his impact.

Nunez, 24, has shown promise as Liverpool's joint-top scorer in the Europa League and second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League behind Mohamed Salah. However, his conversion rate has raised concerns, with 26 big chances missed in 33 Premier League games, second only in the English top flight.

In contrast, Napoli's Osimhen boasts 15 goals in 28 matches, while Boniface has contributed to 27 goals (18 goals, nine assists) in 29 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen, helping them secure their first Bundesliga title.

Reo-Coker suggests that Liverpool should consider including Nunez in a potential swap deal to acquire Osimhen or Boniface. He emphasizes the importance of securing a prolific goalscorer, especially with the potential departure of Salah, and believes a swap deal could benefit both parties.

While Liverpool is reportedly interested in Osimhen, they face competition from Chelsea and PSG for the Super Eagles striker. Boniface, meanwhile, may opt to stay at Bayer Leverkusen for another season to continue their Champions League pursuit, despite Liverpool's interest.

Ultimately, Reo-Coker's proposal highlights the need for Liverpool to address their striker situation and considers potential transfer options to strengthen their attacking lineup for the upcoming season.
