Former Super Eagles star's son released by Birmingham City

Posted : 20 May 2025

Birmingham City, newly promoted to the Championship, has released its list of retained and departing players following the end of the 2024–2025 campaign, announcing that ten young talents will leave the club — among them is Femi Olofinjana.

Femi, the son of former Nigeria international Seyi Olofinjana, is set to exit when his current deal expires this summer, bringing his time at the club to a close.

The other players released include Ben Beresford, Junior Dixon, Taylor Dodd, Laiith Fairnie, Harley Hamilton, Josh Home, Sahid Kamara, Stoyan Pergelov, and Oliver Sayer.

Olofinjana joined the Blues in July 2023 on a professional deal after being let go by West Bromwich Albion, hoping to revive his career with a fresh start.

Primarily a central defender who can also operate at left-back, Femi was a regular figure in the club’s development squad and even found the net during a Premier League 2 clash against Millwall U21s in September.

To further his growth, the 20-year-old also experienced first-team football on loan at Redditch United, a club competing in the Southern League Premier Division.

Internationally, Olofinjana has the option to represent England, Nigeria, or Norway, but has thus far played for Norway at the U17, U18, and U19 levels, indicating a provisional commitment to the Scandinavian nation. In contrast, Birmingham have triggered an extension in Daniel Isichei’s contract, with the young forward likely to join pre-season unless loaned out.
