Posted : 22 April 2024

Two former Super Eagles prospects, Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze, have earned spots in the Whoscored.com Premier League Team of the Week for gameweek 34 due to their exceptional performances for Crystal Palace in their 5-2 victory over West Ham United at Selhurst Park.

Olise, who was invited to the Super Eagles in 2021, and Eze, who attended a Nigeria training camp in London seven years ago, played pivotal roles in four of Crystal Palace's five goals, each contributing a goal and an assist.

Olise, a French U21 international, opened the scoring in the seventh minute, while Eze added a spectacular overhead kick to double the lead in the 16th minute. Additionally, they provided the assists for Jean-Philippe Mateta's goals in the 31st and 64th minutes, respectively.

Olise demonstrated his prowess by registering four shots, two of which were on target, completing 87.5% of his passes, winning two aerial duels, completing two take-ons, and drawing a game-high three fouls for the Eagles.

Despite facing injuries that limited his Premier League appearances to fourteen this season, Olise has impressed with eleven goal involvements (7 goals, 4 assists), attracting interest from clubs like Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool in the upcoming summer transfer window.

In the Whoscored.com Premier League Team of the Week's 4-4-2 formation, Olise and Eze occupy central midfield positions, flanked by Liverpool's Cody Gakpo and Brentford's Cameroonian talent Bryan Mbeumo in the wide midfield roles.

The rest of the Team of the Week comprises Arijanet Muric (Burnley), Lorenz Assignon (Burnley), Ethan Pinnock (Brentford), James Tarkowski (Everton), Sergio Reguilon (Brentford), and Yoane Wissa (Brentford), along with Crystal Palace's Jean-Philippe Mateta.
