Former professional striker Adebayo Akinfenwa has transitioned into football administration by becoming a shareholder at FC Farsley. The British-Nigerian forward acquired a stake in the newly formed phoenix club. His decision was inspired by a long-standing personal friendship with co-owner and manager David Stockdale. The duo previously shared a dressing room as teammates during a successful era at Wycombe Wanderers.
FC Farsley was established to revive local football following the liquidation of semi-professional side Farsley Celtic. The original Yorkshire-based club collapsed due to severe financial problems in December 2025. Former Premier League goalkeeper David Stockdale and his wife Katie took control of the holding company. They launched the new sports outfit from scratch to restore the community team.
The ambitious project will officially begin its journey from the lower ranks of the English football pyramid. The club will compete in the Yorkshire Amateur League Supreme Division for their maiden campaign. This division sits at the twelfth tier of domestic football after Step 6 entry was denied. Management is already executing plans to modernise the Throstle Nest facility by installing an artificial 3G pitch.
Akinfenwa built a massive global reputation across a competitive playing career spanning more than two decades. The powerful attacker made over 700 senior appearances and scored 233 goals for various English clubs. He achieved legendary status at AFC Wimbledon and Wycombe Wanderers before retiring from play in 2022. He was also widely celebrated by football fans as the strongest player in video game history.
The former forward expressed immense enthusiasm about contributing to the club's long-term operational development. He stated that his involvement is focused on creating sustainable pathways for aspiring young players. Chairwoman Katie Stockdale praised Akinfenwa's incredible passion and experience, noting that his values align with their community-first vision. The team will play its first pre-season friendly match against Shirebrook Town this weekend.
