Former NPFL Star Sunday Adetunji Lifts Rwanda League Title With Al Hilal

Posted : 11 June 2026

Former Nigeria Professional Football League star Sunday Adetunji has added a new medal to his professional achievements. The Nigerian forward helped Sudanese heavyweights Al Hilal Omdurman clinch the Rwandan top-flight league championship. This unique achievement occurred while playing far away from their home country due to the continuing political instability in Sudan.

The Rwanda Football Federation set up a unique guest agreement to accommodate displaced teams. Al Hilal participated fully in the Rwandan domestic division alongside fellow Sudanese clubs to sustain their match fitness. The Omdurman-based team dominated the entire season schedule; they gathered 70 points from 30 matches.

The newly crowned champions displayed an extraordinary tactical standard throughout their historic campaign. Al Hilal scored an incredible 69 goals across the season while letting in just 20 goals defensively. Local Rwandan football giants like APR FC and Rayon Sports could not stop their incredible momentum.

This special domestic triumph marks a massive milestone for the visiting club. Al Hilal has become the first football club in African history to win premier league titles in three separate countries. They previously secured top-flight titles in Sudan and Mauritania before adding this latest East African crown.

Adetunji played an important role in his team's frontline success during the competitive season. The former Rivers United and Abia Warriors striker provided needed physicality and attacking depth to the team. His presence helped the Sudanese powerhouse maintain their high standard away from home.

Following the league success in Rwanda, the technical crew shifted focus back to their regional objectives. The club immediately returned to a specialized qualification mini-tournament to establish future continental tickets. Al Hilal maintained their perfect record by winning all seven selection matches.

The dominant side scored 16 times and conceded only once during that impressive qualification tournament. These flawless results officially confirmed their ticket for next year's CAF club competitions. Adetunji and his teammates will represent Sudan on the continental stage once again next season.
