Former Midfielder Duke Udi Urges Super Eagles Call-Up For AIK Sensation Zadok Yohanna

Posted : 06 May 2026

Former Super Eagles midfielder Duke Udi has called for the inclusion of AIK starlet Zadok Yohanna in the national team. The 18-year-old forward has become a breakout star in Sweden since joining AIK in 2025. He recently grabbed headlines after scoring a vital equalizer in a -1 draw against Elfsborg on May 3.

Udi emphasized that national team invitations must be based on current form and merit. He noted that any Nigerian performing consistently at a high level in Europe deserves consideration. Yohanna has already recorded five goals and three assists in eleven appearances across all competitions this year. This form has placed him firmly in the spotlight ahead of the 2026 Unity Cup.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle is expected to use the upcoming tournament in London to test new talent. The semi-final clash against Zimbabwe at The Valley offers a perfect platform for experimentation. Udi believes this competition or the subsequent June friendlies against Poland and Portugal are ideal for Yohanna. He argued that a friendly environment allows the technical crew to assess how a player fits their system.

However; the former Shooting Stars man also advised against placing too much pressure on the teenager. He stated that the manager must have a clear tactical plan for Yohanna’s integration. Udi noted that while fans often demand new faces; the coach’s vision remains the final authority. He expressed pride in seeing young Nigerians thrive in European top-flight leagues like the Allsvenskan.

Yohanna's rise has not gone unnoticed by major European scouts. German sides Borussia Dortmund; Bayer Leverkusen; and RB Leipzig are reportedly monitoring his progress. Chelsea and Ajax have also been linked with the Ikon Allah Academy product. A maiden senior cap for Nigeria would significantly boost his growing reputation ahead of the summer transfer window.
