Former Falconets midfielder Chinyere Kalu joins Spanish club FC Badalona

Former Falconets midfielder Chinyere Kalu has completed a move to Spanish Liga F club FC Badalona. The 20-year-old midfielder joins the Catalan side after spending the 2025/26 season with Levante UD.

Kalu has already gained valuable experience in Spain’s top division. She previously represented Real Betis, where she made nine league appearances during the 2024/25 campaign. ESPN’s squad records also list her with nine appearances and eight starts for Betis that season.

Her time at Real Betis included involvement in several Liga F fixtures. She was listed among the substitutes during Betis’ 4-3 home victory over FC Badalona in November 2024, showing that she had already faced her new club during her first spell in the Spanish top flight.

Kalu later left Betis as part of the club’s squad changes ahead of the 2025/26 season. Real Betis confirmed that the Nigerian midfielder was among the players who would not continue with the team.

She subsequently joined Levante UD Femenino B, with the Spanish club confirming her arrival alongside several other young players for the 2025/26 campaign. Levante identified Kalu as one of the new additions to its reserve team.

The midfielder's development in Spain follows her involvement with Nigeria’s Falconets at the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica. That tournament formed part of her early international experience as she continued her progression towards senior-level football.

Her arrival also comes at an important stage for FC Badalona. The club has strengthened its position in Spanish women's football and attracted significant investment after Mercury13 acquired a majority stake in the team earlier in 2026. The investment group has outlined ambitions to help Badalona compete at a higher level.

FC Badalona will open the 2026/27 Liga F season away to Athletic Club on August 30. The fixture is scheduled for the opening weekend of the new campaign and will give Kalu an early opportunity to make her mark with her new club.

Kalu's move gives her another opportunity to establish herself in Spain's top flight. Her previous Liga F experience with Real Betis and her time at Levante provide a strong foundation as she begins a new chapter with Badalona.
