Flying Eagles Prioritise AFCON Qualification Before WAFU B Title – Maikaba

Flying Eagles Head Coach Abdu Maikaba has declared that Nigeria's immediate objective at the forthcoming 2026 WAFU B U-20 Championship is to qualify for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations before pursuing the regional title.

Maikaba said the Flying Eagles would approach the tournament in Côte d'Ivoire with a clear target of reaching the semi-finals, a feat that would secure one of the qualification places for the continental championship, which will be hosted by Ghana.

"Our first objective is to qualify for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana," Maikaba told BSN Sports.

"Once we secure qualification by reaching the semi-finals, our attention will shift to winning the WAFU B Championship for Nigeria," he added.

The WAFU B U-20 Championship will be held in Côte d'Ivoire from July 26 to August 9, while the tournament draw is scheduled for July 15.

The competition will feature the seven member associations of the WAFU B zone, with the top-performing teams earning qualification for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana.

Nigeria will be aiming to secure a place at the continental championship while also challenging for the WAFU B title.
