The Flying Eagles and Ghana’s Black Satellites played out a 1-1 draw in their opening match of the 2025 WAFU B U20 Boys Tournament at the Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Ghana.
The Black Satellites opened the scoring in the 26th minute, with captain Musbau Azeez finding the back of the net.
Shortly after, the Flying Eagles came under intense pressure, resulting in a yellow card for their captain, Daniel Bameyi, for a rough tackle in the 33rd minute.
Despite the Nigerian side increasing the tempo in the closing stages of the first half, Ghana maintained their 1-0 lead going into the break.
Nigeria’s appeal for a penalty in the 66th minute was waved off by the referee. Defender Odinaka Okoro came close to equalizing in the 76th minute with a free kick that narrowly missed the target.
The Flying Eagles continued to press forward and were finally rewarded in the 84th minute when Mohammed Abdulahi headed in from a corner kick to level the score.
Nigeria’s next fixture is against the Young Cheetahs of Benin Republic on Sunday.
