Zubairu made this known on Tuesday in Ilorin during the Kwara SWAN Hard Talk media event, where he addressed the team’s plans and areas of improvement.
“We’ll be inviting more players to strengthen all departments,” he said. “We must fix the issues we observed at the AFCON, especially our finishing.”
He acknowledged the Flying Eagles’ struggles in front of goal during the recent U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco and emphasized the need to address key deficiencies before the World Cup.
Zubairu added that the inclusion of new players would bring greater balance and depth to the squad as they prepare to face top international opposition.
Despite narrowly missing out on the AFCON title, the coach described the team’s World Cup qualification as a major accomplishment and vowed to surpass the country’s best-ever performance at the tournament.
“Our goal is to go beyond the silver medal finish by Coach Samson Siasia in 2005. That’s the target,” Zubairu said.
He also touched on the poor form of El-Kanemi Warriors in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), attributing their struggles to a lack of cohesion following mid-season signings and the departure of two key players to Europe.
