Flying Eagles Advance to WAFU B Semi-finals Despite Burkina Faso Defeat

Nigeria's Flying Eagles booked their place in the semi-finals of the West African Football Union (WAFU) B Boys Championship despite suffering a 2-0 defeat to Burkina Faso in their final Group B match on Saturday in Côte d'Ivoire.

The defeat was not enough to deny Nigeria top spot in the group, as the Flying Eagles finished with six points to progress to the last four of the regional competition.

Aliyu Zubairu's side will now face Niger Republic in the first semi-final on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at the Lycée Scientifique Stadium in Yamoussoukro.

Hosts Côte d'Ivoire topped Group A after recording two convincing victories, defeating Benin Republic 5-0 before overcoming Niger Republic 2-0 to finish with a perfect six points.

The Ivorians will take on Burkina Faso in the second semi-final at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium, also in Yamoussoukro.

The Nigeria-Niger Republic clash is scheduled to kick off at 5 p.m. Nigerian time, while the second semi-final between Côte d'Ivoire and Burkina Faso will begin at 7 p.m.

Beyond a place in the tournament final, both semi-final winners will secure qualification for the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, which will be hosted by Ghana.
