Amobi Ezeaku Esq., the General Manager and CEO of eight-time Nigerian league champions Rangers International FC, has publicly accepted responsibility for the club's performance in the just-concluded 2024/2025 season.
Speaking at an end-of-season media session held at the club's corporate office boardroom in Enugu, Ezeaku addressed fans and supporters directly, urging them to hold him accountable for a season that saw the club finish 10th in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) and reach the semi-finals of the President’s Federation Cup.
The young club boss began by expressing gratitude to the Enugu State government, led by Peter Mbah, for their unwavering support in realizing the club's strategic plans (2023-2027).
He also acknowledged the vital contributions of numerous sponsors and partners, including Afrinvest West Africa, Nortra Tractors, Kitchen Pastries, PC Clothing, Amakris Kitchen, Senior Barman, and many others.
"Let me start by thanking all those who pulled their weight behind us toward achieving what we were able to accomplish by the end of the season," Ezeaku stated.
"We must not fail to recognize the number one supporter and chief financier of the club, His Excellency Dr. Peter Mbah, for his government's solid support for the club, just as the financial boost from our major sponsors, Afrinvest West Africa and Nortra Tractors, cannot be overlooked."
Ezeaku, who is the youngest club boss in the league, did not shy away from the team’s shortcomings. "Let me inform everyone that I take full responsibility for what happened at the club in the 2024/2025 season," he declared.
He emphasized the importance of learning from past experiences to build a stronger future.
"In football, what we always have to do is take the lessons from the past season to prepare for the coming one.
"We were champions in 2023/2024 and ended this season in 10th place while losing out in the semi-final of the President’s Federation Cup. We have learned our lessons and have started taking action..."
Outlining immediate steps for the upcoming season, Ezeaku revealed that the club has successfully extended coach Fidelis Ilechukwu’s contract and is actively in discussions to bring in "quality legs."
On a brighter note, he celebrated the invitation of three Rangers players to the senior national team, where they are currently representing the club with distinction at the Unity Cup Tournament in London.
Barrister Ezeaku further reassured stakeholders that the club’s strategic plans remain firmly on track.
He highlighted the continued success of the Rangers Youth Team (Under-10 to Under-17) and the U-19 team, which has become a highly sought-after development platform for other clubs across the country.
With a clear commitment to accountability and proactive planning, Rangers International FC is poised for a rejuvenated push in the forthcoming season.
