2025/2026 NPFL Match Day 30: Rangers Int'l FC Forces Kwara United to Stalemate in Lagos

Posted : 16 March 2026

Rangers International FC produced a disciplined and resolute defensive display to hold Kwara United to a goalless draw in Matchday 30 of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Sunday.

The Flying Antelopes arrived in Lagos as the away side but left with a hard-earned point, frustrating a Kwara United outfit that had won their previous two consecutive fixtures and came into the match full of confidence and intent.

From the first whistle, it was clear Kwara United would carry the attacking burden. Samsudeen Muhammed tested Rangers barely a minute in, but a timely deflection from the visitors snuffed out the early threat. That moment set the tone for what would follow: a contest defined by Kwara United's persistence and Rangers' unyielding organisation at the back.

The second half saw Harmony Boys coach Ashifat Suleiman turn to his bench, introducing tactical substitutions to inject fresh energy and variety into the attack. The changes sharpened Kwara United's intent, with Gidado Toheeb going closest on two separate occasions, only to be denied by an outstanding Rangers goalkeeper who was equal to everything thrown at him.

At the opposite end, Kwara United goalkeeper Suraj Ayeleso was also called into action, making crucial stops to ensure Rangers did not steal all three points on the counter. The contest ultimately finished level, with neither side able to find the decisive moment.

For Rangers International, the point on the road represents a measured and professional result, particularly against a side buoyed by back-to-back wins. Their goalkeeper's performance was central to the outcome, and the team's defensive shape held firm throughout despite sustained pressure.

For Kwara United, the dropped points will sting given their recent form, but coach Suleiman remained focused on the bigger picture after the final whistle.

"We will continue to fight until we overcome the hurdles and secure our place in the league," he said, acknowledging that survival remains the club's primary objective this season.

The Harmony Boys will next face Remo Stars FC after the FA preliminary fixtures, knowing that points from every remaining game will be critical in their bid to preserve their top-flight status.

Rangers International FC's disciplined performance in Lagos earned them a valuable away point and simultaneously brought Kwara United's two-match winning run to an end.

The goalless draw reflects a keenly contested affair in which the Rangers goalkeeper was the standout figure, producing saves that proved decisive.

As both sides return to action following the FA preliminary fixtures, the pressure of the survival battle will only intensify in the weeks ahead.
