Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, produced a dominant display to defeat Guinea 5-0 in the first leg of their 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup second-round qualifying tie on Saturday in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The Akeem Busari-led side showcased their quality from the outset at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny, with captain Harmony Chidi delivering a sensational performance to inspire the emphatic win.
Nigeria wasted no time asserting control, as Chidi struck directly from kickoff to stun the Guinean defence with an early goal inside the opening seconds of the match.
The Flamingos maintained their attacking pressure, and Chidi doubled the lead in the 13th minute with a powerful long-range effort that left the opposition struggling to cope.
Guinea found it difficult to contain Nigeria’s relentless attacks, and the Flamingos extended their advantage in the 37th minute through FC Robo Queens forward Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, who finished calmly after a well-constructed move.
Just three minutes later, Chidi completed her first-half hat-trick with another composed finish, sending Nigeria into the break with a commanding 4-0 lead.
Despite their comfortable advantage, the Flamingos continued to push forward after halftime and were rewarded again in the 56th minute when Mary Dunstan added the fifth goal to complete a comprehensive team performance.
The emphatic away victory puts Nigeria firmly in control of the tie ahead of the second leg, which will be played next Saturday in Ikenne-Remo. The Flamingos will aim to finish the job and take another step toward qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
