Finidi George Praises Rivers United Discipline in Crucial Victory Over Plateau United

Rivers United technical adviser Finidi George has lauded his players for their controlled performance in the 1-0 win over Plateau United. The victory at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium on Sunday moved the Port Harcourt club back to the top of the Nigeria Premier Football League table.

The game was decided early in the first half when Wisdom Samuel found the net in the 10th minute. Samuel benefited from a well-timed assist by Taofeek Otaniyi to secure the only goal of the encounter. Following the goal, the home side managed the tempo effectively to frustrate the visitors.

Speaking to the club’s media after the final whistle, Finidi noted that his team did not face significant pressure during the match. He highlighted the defensive stability shown by his players against a dangerous Plateau United side coached by Gbenga Ogunbote. Finidi admitted that while his team did not create many chances, they remained disciplined at the back.

The former Super Eagles winger described the win as a "comfortable" one for his squad. He stated that the game was properly controlled without too much stress on the defenders. Finidi added that the overall performance was encouraging as they chase the league title.

This result sees Rivers United move onto 58 points, overtaking Rangers International who dropped points in their respective fixture. The victory marks a significant step forward in the title race with only a few games remaining in the 2025/2026 season.

The Pride of Rivers will now shift their focus to another high-profile encounter this weekend. They are scheduled to travel north to face Kano Pillars in a Matchday 35 clash. Keeping the momentum will be vital for Finidi’s men as they look to maintain their slim two-point lead at the summit of the log.
