FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Falconets Boost Confidence with Win Over Poland

Nigeria’s Falconets have boosted their preparations for the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over hosts Poland in a friendly on Friday.

The Nigerian U-20 women secured the narrow win at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg, Poland, as coach Moses Aduku continues to fine-tune his squad ahead of the tournament.

Mary Mamudu proved to be the difference between the two sides, scoring in first-half stoppage time to hand the two-time World Cup runners-up a valuable victory.

The result provided the Falconets with the perfect response as they intensify preparations for their opening Group D fixture against Spain on September 7.

The friendly formed part of Nigeria’s final build-up to the tournament, with the technical crew using the encounter to assess the team’s readiness and sharpen its competitive edge.

The Falconets will have one more opportunity to test themselves before the tournament proper when they face the Republic of Korea on Tuesday, September 1.

The final warm-up match will be played at the Remes Sports Leisure and Spa Stadium in Poland.

Following the friendly against Korea, the Nigerian side will turn their attention to their World Cup campaign, beginning with their meeting against Spain on September 7.

They will then face China on September 10 before rounding off their group-stage fixtures against New Caledonia on September 13.

For Aduku and his players, the victory over Poland offers an encouraging boost as they seek to translate their preparations into a strong start at the global tournament.
