FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: Falconets arrive in Katowice ahead of Spain clash

Nigeria’s U-20 Women’s National Team, the Falconets, have moved into the final phase of their preparations for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland, arriving in Katowice on Thursday ahead of their opening Group F encounter against Spain.

The team departed their training base in Trzebnica after 10 days of intensive preparations under Head Coach Moses Aduku and his technical crew.

During the camp, the coaching staff focused on tactical organisation, technical execution, physical conditioning and team cohesion as the players fine-tuned their preparations for the global tournament.

The Falconets also used the period to acclimatise to the Polish environment and improve their match sharpness through two international friendly matches.

Nigeria recorded a 1-0 victory over hosts Poland last Friday, with Mary Mamudu scoring the decisive goal in the first half.

Mamudu was again on target in the Falconets’ final warm-up match against Korea Republic on Tuesday, as both teams settled for a 1-1 draw.

The two unbeaten outings offered Aduku and his assistants an opportunity to assess the squad against different styles of opposition while giving the players valuable exposure to the pace and intensity expected at the World Cup.

With the Trzebnica camp now concluded, the Falconets have settled at the Novotel Katowice Centrum, where they will continue their final preparations for their opening match.

Nigeria will face Spain on Monday in their first Group F fixture before taking on China PR on Sept. 10 and New Caledonia on Sept. 13.

The Falconets will be hoping to carry the confidence gained from their successful warm-up matches into the tournament as they begin their quest for a strong showing on the global stage.
