Nigeria’s Future Eagles completed their group-stage campaign at the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan, unbeaten after recording a 2-1 victory over Cyprus and a 1-1 draw with Pakistan on Monday.
The Nigerian youngsters demonstrated their resilience across both fixtures, securing a win in the morning before battling back to earn a point in the afternoon.
Against Cyprus, Wisdom Oche opened the scoring for Nigeria before captain Timothy Ogar Ijachi struck the decisive goal to seal a 2-1 victory.
Ijachi’s contribution was particularly encouraging after the captain overcame a knock sustained during Sunday’s 3-3 draw against The Gambia.
The Nigerian skipper maintained his scoring form in the afternoon encounter against Pakistan, netting in the 25th minute to restore parity after the Pakistanis had taken the lead one minute into the second half.
The match ended 1-1, ensuring the Future Eagles completed their group-stage fixtures without defeat.
Nigeria had earlier drawn 3-3 with The Gambia, meaning the team combined a victory with two draws in their three group matches.
The unbeaten run offers encouragement to the coaching crew as the young Nigerians continue their development at the international youth competition.
With the inaugural tournament operating a no-elimination format, the Future Eagles will await confirmation of the next tier in which they will compete as they continue their pursuit of honours in Azerbaijan.
Their performances so far have provided valuable competitive experience, with the team now looking to build on their results in the next phase of the festival.
