Felix Agu sets Bundesliga record, eyes Super Eagles debut

Posted : 20 May 2025

Felix Agu, the dynamic wingback for Werder Bremen, made headlines on the final day of the 2024-2025 Bundesliga season by setting a remarkable speed record. His performance helped secure a commanding victory for his team as they finished strong.

Werder Bremen dominated their away fixture against Heidenheim at the Voith-Arena, winning 4-1. Agu contributed significantly, featuring for 72 minutes in a match that showcased the Green-Whites’ attacking prowess.

The game’s momentum was established early when Romano Schmid converted a penalty in the 14th minute, followed by a goal from Jens Stage just before halftime. Marvin Ducksch added a third goal in the 66th minute, further extending their lead.

Though Heidenheim managed to pull one goal back through Luca Kerber in the 80th minute, Werder Bremen’s substitute Keke Topp sealed the emphatic win with a late goal in the 86th minute, ensuring no comeback was possible.

According to Werder Bremen’s official channels, Agu recorded an impressive top speed of 36.31 km/h during the match. This made him the fastest player on the 34th matchday of the Bundesliga and placed him eighth among the season’s quickest players overall.

Throughout the season, Agu has been a key player for Bremen, appearing in 22 games, contributing three goals and one assist, and accumulating 1,761 minutes on the pitch. Born in Osnabrück, he is eligible to represent Nigeria internationally through his father, having not been cap-tied to Germany despite involvement with their U21 squad.

Interest in Agu’s international future has grown, especially as Nigeria’s coach Eric Chelle has actively pursued his commitment. Agu has expressed enthusiasm about playing for the Super Eagles, and although he is contracted to Werder Bremen until 2027, rumors link him to potential moves to Premier League clubs during the upcoming transfer window.
