As the 13th edition of the Gold Cup nears its conclusion on Saturday, FC Ebedei has claimed the final spot to face Sporting Lagos FC in a highly anticipated showdown at the FC Ebedei Stadium, Apele-Sagamu.
FC Ebedei reached their first-ever Gold Cup final after a dramatic 4-2 victory on penalties against Crown FC, following a goalless draw in regulation time.
Like Sporting Lagos, it is also the Oliseh Boys’ first final, though theirs came after 13 attempts in the tournament.
The 2025 final will be a rematch of their Group A clash, where Sporting Lagos claimed all three points with a 2-1 win.
In the first semi-final, Sporting Lagos edged out former champions Lobi Stars thanks to a late strike from super substitute Shola Oladunjoiye.
The second semi-final between Crown FC and FC Ebedei was equally intense and required penalty kicks to determine the winner after a goalless 90 minutes.
FC Ebedei’s substitute goalkeeper Ojo Daniel was the star of the shootout, saving Crown FC’s first and third penalties.
The tournament’s leading scorer, Kennedy John, sealed the victory by converting FC Ebedei’s fifth penalty, securing a 4-2 shootout triumph and a place in the final.
