FC Basira begin rebuild with mass player clear-out after missed NPFL promotion

Posted : 30 April 2026

FC Basira have kick-started a sweeping rebuild following their failure to secure promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), with nine players shown the exit door in what signals a new direction for the club.

After falling short of their target in the just-concluded 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) season, the Lafia-based side have wasted no time in restructuring the squad, opting for a bold overhaul aimed at strengthening competitiveness ahead of the next campaign.

The club’s management confirmed the departure of Abdullahi Abdulrahman, Zamani Panshak, Mko Andrew, Zakaria Sunday, Enoch Kudu, Musa Aminu, Ishaku Faisal, Peter Eneji, and Ichull Lordson, bringing an end to their respective spells with the team.

The decision, described as part of a broader strategic reset, underscores FC Basira’s determination to return stronger and mount a more formidable push for top-flight promotion in the 2026/2027 season.

In a statement, the club’s Founder and CEO expressed gratitude to the outgoing players for their commitment and professionalism, acknowledging their efforts during their time with the team while wishing them success in their future careers.

With this significant shake-up, attention now turns to recruitment and squad reinforcement as FC Basira aim to build a more balanced and competitive side capable of achieving their long-standing NPFL ambition.

The massive clear-out marks a definitive turning point for the club as they seek to address the shortcomings of the previous season. By creating space for fresh talent, management hopes to foster a culture of excellence and high performance necessary for securing a spot in Nigeria's elite football division next year.
