Falconets Face Poland and South Korea in World Cup Warm-Up Tests

Nigeria’s U20 women’s national team, the Falconets, will face Poland and South Korea in two international friendlies as part of their final preparations for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup. The matches will give coach Moses Aduku an opportunity to assess his squad before Nigeria begin their campaign in Poland.

The Falconets will face tournament hosts Poland on Friday, August 28, at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg. The match is scheduled for 12 noon local time.

Nigeria will then take on South Korea on Tuesday, September 1, at the Remes Resort & Spa Football Stadium. The second friendly will begin at 4pm local time.

The two matches will form an important part of Nigeria’s final build-up. The technical crew will use the games to assess tactical organisation, test players against different styles and improve the team’s understanding ahead of the World Cup.

The Falconets arrived in Poland on Tuesday and settled in Trzebnica. They held their first training session on Wednesday at the Stadion Miejski, Fair Play Arena, with the programme focused on tactical work, technical execution, physical conditioning and team cohesion.

Nigeria will also have to manage two changes to their squad. Captain Joy Igbokwe and defender Faridat Abdulwahab were unable to secure visas, leading to the call-up of Vivian Kachi and Alaba Olabiyi as replacements.

The Falconets qualified for the tournament after defeating Malawi 3-2 on aggregate in the final qualifying round. Nigeria won the first leg 2-0 in Ikenne before losing 2-1 in Lilongwe, with Oscar Precious scoring the goal that ultimately secured their place at the finals.

The qualification extended Nigeria’s record of appearing at every edition of the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup since the competition began in 2002. The Falconets have twice reached the final, finishing as runners-up in 2010 and 2014.

Nigeria have been drawn in Group F alongside Spain, China PR and New Caledonia. They will face Spain on September 7, China PR on September 10 and New Caledonia on September 13.

The friendlies against Poland and South Korea will therefore provide Aduku with his final opportunities to fine-tune the squad before the Falconets begin their latest bid for a first U20 Women’s World Cup title.
