Falconets Arrive in Ikenne to Begin Final Preparations for Crucial Malawi World Cup Qualifier

Posted : 27 April 2026

The Nigerian U-20 women’s national team, popularly known as the Falconets, have officially touched down in Ikenne. This move marks the beginning of their final training camp before the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. They are scheduled to face Malawi in a high-stakes encounter that determines their path toward the global tournament.

Coach Moses Aduku led the squad through an initial three-week intensive training program in Abuja. The team focused on physical conditioning and tactical drills during their time in the capital city. Moving the camp to Ikenne allows the players to acclimatize to the specific match environment at the Remo Stars Stadium.

Nigeria will host the first leg of this qualifying fixture on Saturday, May 2. The team intends to secure a comfortable lead at home before traveling for the return leg. That second match is scheduled to take place in Blantyre exactly one week after the opening game.

The Falconets entered this final round after a successful performance against Senegal in the previous stage. They secured their progression with a 3-1 aggregate victory over the West African side. This consistent form has established them as favorites heading into the clash with the Malawi national team.

Malawi earned their spot in this round by delivering a dominant performance against Guinea-Bissau. They overwhelmed their opponents with a stunning 8-2 aggregate scoreline across two matches. Their clinical finishing suggests that the Nigerian defense will face a significant challenge during the upcoming two-legged tie.

The ultimate goal for both nations is to secure a spot at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Poland is set to host the prestigious international competition later this year. The tournament will run from September 5 to September 26, 2026, featuring the world's best youth talent.

Coach Aduku remains focused on maintaining the team's discipline and sharpness during this final week. The technical crew is expected to finalize the starting lineup based on performances in Ikenne. Fans are looking forward to seeing if the Falconets can maintain their perfect qualifying record on home soil.
