The cash awards were presented to Jimoh Abdul of Rangers International and Kayode Bankole Obassa of Remo Stars, who were jointly named Best Goalkeepers of the Season after keeping 15 clean sheets each—the highest in the campaign. Both received a ₦100,000 cash prize.
The ceremony also recognised the efforts of those working behind the scenes. Coach Dahiru Ilu and Coach Anthony Donwa were named Best Goalkeeper Coaches and each received ₦50,000, acknowledging their key role in grooming elite-level goalkeepers in the league.
In the youth category, Ezekiel Clinton of Bayelsa United was named Best Rookie Goalkeeper and awarded ₦50,000, sponsored by former NPFL goalkeepers John Dosu and Femi Thomas.
The initiative, now in its second year, was warmly received by the NPFL Goalkeepers WhatsApp Group—a community comprising coaches, players, and league administrators—who praised Ezenwa and his partners for their unwavering support for goalkeeping development in Nigeria.
In a joint message, the group said:
“We sincerely appreciate Ikechukwu Ezenwa and the co-sponsors for instituting these recognitions. The weekly and end-of-season awards boost morale and encourage consistency among NPFL goalkeepers.”
John Dosu, one of the co-sponsors, expressed his gratitude:
“We thank Ezenwa for leading this initiative. These awards are motivational and provide visibility for younger talents who are often overlooked.”
Ezenwa also shared his thoughts on the programme’s impact:
“It’s inspiring to see how these awards are helping young goalkeepers improve, regardless of their club’s position. My message to them is simple—stay focused and keep working. Nigerian goalkeeping has a bright future.”
The expansion of the award categories and prize pool highlights a growing commitment to investing in goalkeeping excellence in Nigeria’s top-flight football.
