Ezeji Hails Obaje as Rangers Striker Reaches 101 NPFL Goals

Posted : 08 October 2026

Former Nigeria Premier Football League striker Victor Ezeji has congratulated Enugu Rangers forward Godwin Obaje after the striker reached the 100-goal milestone in Nigeria’s top flight. Obaje achieved the feat with the winning goal in Rangers’ 1-0 victory over Warri Wolves in a rescheduled fixture on September 30.

Obaje converted an 11th-minute penalty in Ozoro, Delta State, to secure three points for the defending champions. The goal also made him only the third player to reach 100 NPFL goals, joining Ezeji and Kano Pillars veteran Rabiu Ali in the exclusive group.

Ezeji welcomed the achievement and said football records should eventually be broken. The former Sharks striker also expressed his hope that Obaje can surpass his own league record of 148 goals.

“No records are there forever; records are meant to be broken,” Ezeji said. He added that he would be happy to see Obaje break his record, while wishing the Rangers striker well in the pursuit.

Obaje did not stop at 100 goals. He scored again in Rangers’ 3-1 Oriental Derby victory over Abia Warriors on October 4, taking his career NPFL tally to 101. His 37th-minute goal opened the scoring before Chidiebere Nwobodo and Daniel Itodo completed the victory for Rangers.

The milestone reflects Obaje’s consistency across several NPFL clubs. His 100 goals have come during spells with Wikki Tourists, the defunct FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Plateau United, Abia Warriors and Rangers, with 35 of his goals coming for the Flying Antelopes.

Obaje’s achievement also places him behind two established league scoring figures. Ezeji leads the historical chart with 148 goals, while Rabiu Ali has continued to add to his tally and is reported to have 124 league goals. Obaje therefore needs 23 more goals to draw level with Ali and 48 to match Ezeji.

The striker’s latest goals have also helped Rangers maintain their position at the top of the NPFL standings. The champions have collected 16 points from seven matches and remain unbeaten after the 3-1 victory over Abia Warriors.

With Obaje now on 101 league goals, the Rangers striker has a new target in sight. His pursuit of Ali and Ezeji could become one of the major individual storylines of the NPFL season.
