Ex-England coach admits Chelsea, Man Utd-linked striker Osimhen is irreplaceable

Posted : 11 March 2024

Former England coach Fabio Capello has acknowledged the irreplaceable value of Victor Osimhen amid ongoing speculation about his potential departure from the Diego Maradona Stadium during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Despite Chelsea's initial interest in securing the signature of the reigning African Footballer of the Year, Financial Fair Play penalties might pose a significant obstacle to completing the transfer.

Recent reports have linked Manchester United to the Golden Boot winner of the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup, suggesting a potential alternative destination. Last summer, the Red Devils were reportedly considering Osimhen, but the high cost of the move led them to acquire Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta instead.

Paris Saint-Germain, the affluent club in French Ligue 1, has identified Napoli's striker as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who seems poised to move to Real Madrid during the off-season.

With Napoli actively seeking a player to fill Osimhen's shoes, speculations connect them to Nigerian strikers Victor Boniface and Joshua Zirkzee.

In an interview with Il Mattino via Area Napoli, Capello posed a challenging question: "How do you replace Osimhen next year? Million-dollar question, there are no players around to replace Osimhen. You would have to have a crystal ball to find him."

Despite finishing in fifth place at The Best FIFA Football Awards 2023, trailing Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland, Kylian Mbappe, and Kevin De Bruyne, Osimhen's prowess remains highly regarded.
