Europe's Biggest Clubs Prepare for Transfer Frenzy After World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup may have dominated global attention, but Europe's biggest clubs continued to work behind the scenes to strengthen their squads. With the tournament now over, the summer transfer window is expected to gather even greater momentum as teams push to complete major deals before the new season.

Real Madrid have been among the busiest clubs in the market following the return of José Mourinho. The Spanish giants have prioritized defensive reinforcements by signing Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan, Marc Cucurella from Chelsea, and Ibrahima Konaté from Liverpool. Bernardo Silva has also arrived to strengthen midfield, while Mourinho is expected to build his attack around Kylian Mbappé, Vinícius Júnior, Jude Bellingham and Endrick. Madrid could still offload academy graduates Raúl Asencio and Gonzalo García, with Eduardo Camavinga and Trent Alexander-Arnold also linked with possible exits.

Barcelona have adopted a different strategy under Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco. The Catalan club completed the signings of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United and Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund, believing both players fit the club's long-term vision. However, Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez remains Barcelona's primary target despite repeated refusals from Atlético to negotiate. Strengthening the defense also remains high on the club's agenda.

Chelsea have once again dominated headlines with another expensive recruitment drive under owner Todd Boehly. The London club secured England midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa for €140 million, making him the biggest transfer completed so far this summer. Chelsea are also closing in on Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix while adding highly rated youngsters Marco Palestra, Geovany Quenda and Emanuel Emegha. New manager Xabi Alonso will hope the additions help Chelsea challenge for major honours.

Paris Saint-Germain have taken a much quieter approach after consecutive UEFA Champions League triumphs. The French champions have retained most of their successful squad, although Gonçalo Ramos has joined AC Milan after seeking more regular football. PSG are reportedly considering Folarin Balogun and Ferran Torres as potential attacking reinforcements to provide greater depth at center-forward.

Premier League champions Arsenal have largely focused on maintaining squad stability. Piero Hincapié has joined permanently from Bayer Leverkusen, while Christos Tzolis has replaced Leandro Trossard following the Belgian's move to Beşiktaş. Arsenal are also monitoring PSG winger Bradley Barcola after missing out on Morgan Rogers.

Tottenham Hotspur have also invested heavily following a difficult campaign. New manager Roberto De Zerbi has overseen the arrivals of Sandro Tonali, Matheus Fernandes and Jan Paul van Hecke, while experienced defenders Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi joined on free transfers.

Elsewhere, Manchester City have signed Elliot Anderson as part of Enzo Maresca's midfield rebuild. Manchester United strengthened with Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans while continuing to pursue Manu Koné. Liverpool added Víctor Muñoz and Jérémy Jacquet under new manager Andoni Iraola, and Bayern Munich completed deals for Nathaniel Brown and Ismael Saibari as Europe's transfer market prepares for another busy period.
