Erring match officials incur NFF wrath

Posted : 13 March 2024

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has announced that it has removed Jimoh Abdulrasheed from officiating in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The Nigerian Football Federation Refereeing Development Unit has removed Center Referee Jimoh Abdulrasheed from Bauchi, along with assistant Referee Zakari Adamu from Jigawa, who officiated the football match between Rivers United FC and Kano Pillars FC on Saturday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The decision to remove the Center Referee followed a petition by Kano Pillars Management to the NPFL and the Interim Management Company (IMC) regarding the ending match, which saw the Pillars FC goalkeeper being pushed into the net after he grabbed the ball from a Rivers United player. As a result of this incident, the goalkeeper was down for over fifteen minutes due to an injury sustained during the struggle with the opposing side.

The Referee should have awarded Rivers United FC the goal, thereby equalizing the score with Pillars FC.

The letter of removal was copied to the NFF Chairman and the General Secretary, respectively.
