Erling Haaland Wins Third Premier League Golden Boot

Posted : 24 May 2026

Erling Haaland has secured the Premier League Golden Boot for the third time in four seasons with Manchester City, despite not featuring in their final match of the campaign.

The Norwegian striker was absent from the squad as City suffered a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa in Pep Guardiola’s farewell match at the Etihad Stadium. Even so, Haaland’s consistent goal-scoring throughout the season ensured he finished as the league’s top scorer.

Haaland netted 27 goals in 35 Premier League appearances, narrowly edging out Brentford’s Igor Thiago, who finished second with 22 goals. Thiago’s strong campaign also earned him a call-up to the Brazil squad ahead of the World Cup.

The 25-year-old striker joins an elite group of players to have won the Golden Boot three times, alongside Alan Shearer and Harry Kane. Only Mohamed Salah and Thierry Henry have won the award more times in the Premier League era, with four titles each.

Haaland began the season in explosive form, scoring 19 goals in his first 17 league matches and quickly establishing himself as the frontrunner for the award.

However, his influence dipped during a difficult mid-season spell in which he scored just once in seven games, a period that coincided with a drop in Manchester City’s form and proved costly in their title challenge.

He later rediscovered his scoring touch during the closing stages of the season, netting key goals against Liverpool and Arsenal in high-profile matches. Despite his contributions, City dropped crucial points against Everton and Bournemouth, allowing Arsenal to secure their first league title in 22 years.
