In a rousing meeting with the squad in Aba, the Nigerian football legend and Enyimba chairman challenged the new signings to restore the People’s Elephant to their rightful place as the kings of Nigerian football.
Kanu, a former Super Eagles captain and ex-Ajax Amsterdam star, emphasized the importance of discipline, hard work, and winning mentality.
“Professionalism must be your watchword. We are not here just to participate; we are here to win,” declared Kanu, affectionately known as Papilo.
The two-time African Footballer of the Year made it clear that the Aba Boys must reclaim their dominance both domestically and continentally.
“We narrowly missed out last season, but this is a fresh chance to deliver happiness to our fans and reclaim our rightful place, not just in Nigeria, but across Africa,” he said.
Enyimba’s rich history backs the ambition:
However, recent seasons have seen the Abia-based side fall short of expectations. In the 2024/25 NPFL campaign, Enyimba finished 6th, winning 14 of 38 matches, drawing 13, and losing 11. They ended the season with 55 points, just four points shy of a top-four finish.
Now under Kanu’s continued leadership, the club is undergoing a strategic rebuild, blending youth and experience to restore its competitive edge. Renovations at the Enyimba International Stadium are also part of the new push to regain their dominance in the NPFL and on the continent.
The message is clear: Enyimba is not here to participate, they are here to win. And their passionate supporters are ready to roar with them once more.
