Enyimba International FC return to winning ways with dominant Abia FA Cup triumph

Posted : 27 April 2026

Revenge was served in emphatic fashion as Enyimba International FC brushed aside Ahudiyannam FC 4-0 to reclaim the 2026 Abia State President Federation Cup title at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.

Still carrying the scars of last year’s painful penalty shootout loss to the same opponents, Enyimba approached this final with a clear mission to settle scores convincingly.

From the onset, the NPFL heavyweights dictated the pace, pressing high and forcing Ahudiyannam into a defensive shell.

Their intent paid off midway through the first half when winger Wonah Williams capped off a lively spell with a composed finish in the 20th minute, setting the tone for what would become a one-sided affair.

Ahudiyannam had a brief window of hope early in the second half after earning a penalty in the 50th minute.

However, Enyimba’s goalkeeper Miracle Ukadike rose to the occasion with a crucial save, denying the initial effort and reacting sharply to the rebound to preserve his side’s lead and shift momentum firmly back in their favor.

That moment proved decisive. Just seven minutes later, Williams struck again, finishing off a well-worked move orchestrated by Ezekiel Edidiong to double Enyimba’s advantage and effectively put the contest beyond reach.

Sensing an opportunity to further assert dominance, Technical Adviser Coach Emmanuel Deutsch Gustavo introduced fresh legs, including academy graduate Samuel Okechukwu and Salman Abubakar.

The substitutions injected renewed energy, stretching Ahudiyannam’s already fragile defense.

Okechukwu would soon mark his presence in style. After being brought down inside the box, the youngster stepped up and confidently converted from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute, celebrating a dream moment on the big stage.

Joel Ezra rounded off the commanding display five minutes from time with a brilliant solo effort, sealing a comprehensive 4-0 victory and underlining Enyimba’s superiority.

Speaking after the game, goalscorer and Enyimba Academy graduate Samuel Okechukwu expressed joy at contributing to the triumph, while praising his teammates and the club’s leadership for their belief in the young talents.

“I am very delighted. I thank my teammates for making it easy for me since after my promotion alongside Nelson Sule and Goodluck.

``I also thank Coach Deutsch and the entire technical crew for their fatherly role, and the management for believing and trusting us.”

Samuel however, remained grounded despite his big moment on a grand stage;

“I will stay humble and continue to develop my game. The season is not yet over. Our focus now is the league.”

With the state title secured in commanding fashion, Enyimba now shift focus back to the Nigeria Premier Football League, where a crucial fixture against Remo Stars FC awaits on Sunday in Aba.

This emphatic victory restores Enyimba International FC's status as the premier team in Abia State while avenging their previous disappointment. The integration of academy talents like Samuel Okechukwu highlights a bright future for the People's Elephant as they balance cup success with league ambitions. With momentum now on their side, the club looks forward to maintaining this high standard in their upcoming NPFL clash against Remo Stars.
