2025/2026 NPFL Match Day 2 Review: Enyimba Int’l FC Secures First Win of the Season Against Niger Tornadoes

Record nine-time Nigeria league champions, Enyimba International FC, claimed their first victory of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season with a 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes in Aba.

 

A towering fifth-minute header from new signing Joseph Abiodun sealed the win for the People’s Elephant, sending the Aba faithful into wild jubilation at the Enyimba International Stadium.

 

Reacting to the result, Enyimba’s Technical Adviser, Stanley Eguma, praised his players for their resilience and fighting spirit in what he described as a hard-fought contest.

 

“The boys showed character today, and I am proud of their bravery. Some of them, especially those making their first outing, were naturally a bit jittery, but they gave everything. With more games, they will grow in confidence and deliver even better performances,” Eguma remarked.

 

While expressing disappointment at his team’s missed chances that could have widened the scoreline, Eguma assured fans that the technical crew will work on improving the team’s efficiency in front of goal.

 

“We created so many opportunities but didn’t take them. That’s one area we must improve on. The important thing, however, is that we secured all three points. This win is for our fans who turned out massively. We promise them more exciting results as the season unfolds.”

 

On the other hand, Niger Tornadoes’ head coach, Majin Mohammed, admitted his side paid the price for wasting early chances and noted the toll of their long road trip from Minna to Aba.

 

Looking ahead, Enyimba will host Nasarawa United in a Matchday 3 clash on Sunday in Aba—a game Eguma believes will further test his team’s resolve and ambition this season.

 

With this victory, the Aba giants have shown early signs of strength and promise, igniting hopes among their loyal supporters for a campaign filled with dominance, resilience, and memorable performances.
