Nine-time champions Enyimba International FC will continue life under new head coach Emmanuel Deutsch when they host relegation-battling Kun Khalifat FC in a Match Day 28 fixture of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League.
The encounter will be played behind closed doors at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba, following a league-imposed sanction after crowd trouble in their Match Day 21 clash against Barau FC.
Enyimba sit 14th on the table with 32 points from 27 matches, a position far from their usual standard.
Deutsch, appointed to replace Deji Ayeni, began his reign with a creditable 1-1 draw away to Rivers United FC and now targets his first home victory.
Midfielder Paul Odey believes swift adaptation to the new manager’s approach is crucial to the team’s resurgence.
“You know it’s not difficult to change coaches, but you have to adapt to the style of play, philosophy, and the rest (of the new coach),” he said.
“But then, as a player, you also have to adapt fast to make sure you get yourself in order or in shape to flow with the journey.”
“You know it’s a marathon league, and there is no time. And as you can see, we are not standing well on the table. So, we have to put in everything and adapt fast to make sure we move up on the table.”
For Kun Khalifat, the stakes are equally high. The league debutants are 19th with 28 points and remain deep in the relegation battle.
In a bid to steady the ship, the club recently appointed Ekpemandu Christopher Chijioke as Team Manager following the departure of Ifeanyi Anaemena.
With both sides seeking stability and momentum, Sunday’s fixture could play a defining role in their push for survival and resurgence.
