NPFL Matchday 14: Enyimba Coach Ukaegbu Laments Costly 3–2 Defeat to Katsina United

Posted : 26 November 2025

Enyimba FC’s late pressure proved insufficient in Ilorin as the People’s Elephant slipped to a 3–2 defeat against Katsina United in a pulsating NPFL Matchday 14 fixture on Monday.

The nine-time champions entered the contest seeking redemption but instead found themselves on the back foot after Yusuf and former Enyimba striker Uche Collins scored in the 32nd and 51st minutes to give Katsina United a firm advantage.

Interim coach Lawrence Ukaegbu responded by introducing Ufere Chinedu and veteran winger Stanley Dimgba, a move that injected renewed urgency into Enyimba’s attack. Dimgba made an immediate impact, pulling one back in the 61st minute to spark hopes of a comeback.

Those hopes were short-lived. Just a minute later, Collins registered his second of the evening, restoring the Chanji Boys’ two-goal lead and punishing Enyimba’s defensive lapse. Captain Kalu Nweke again dragged the Aba giants into contention with a composed finish in the 64th minute, setting up a tense finale.

From that point on, Enyimba dominated possession and dictated the tempo, but Katsina United disrupted the rhythm with persistent time-wasting tactics—an approach that ultimately helped them protect their narrow lead.

A disappointed Ukaegbu did not hide his frustration after the final whistle.

“This is a painful one. I expected us to win today because it was a neutral ground. We did enough to get something from this match, but the lost time that wasn’t recovered cost us. Still, we will work harder and bounce back.”

Despite the setback, the People’s Elephant showed commendable resilience, and their spirited second-half display provides momentum ahead of a fiery Oriental Derby against Enugu Rangers this Sunday at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
