England will aim to secure top spot in Group L when they face Panama in their final group-stage match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at MetLife Stadium on Saturday.
The Three Lions sit at the top of the group with four points after defeating Croatia 4-2 before playing out a goalless draw against Ghana. A draw will be enough to guarantee progression as group winners, although head coach Thomas Tuchel will still expect a strong performance from his side.
Panama, meanwhile, have already been eliminated after suffering consecutive 1-0 defeats to Ghana and Croatia. The Central American side are still searching for their first goal of the tournament and will be playing for pride in their final outing.
England are expected to make a few adjustments because of injury concerns. Defender Reece James is unavailable after picking up a hamstring injury against Ghana, while midfielder Declan Rice is a doubt with a calf problem. Tuchel is unlikely to risk either player ahead of the knockout rounds.
Djed Spence is tipped to start at full-back, with Nico O'Reilly expected to feature on the opposite flank. Kobbie Mainoo could replace Rice in midfield alongside Elliot Anderson, while Marcus Rashford is in line for a starting role after Anthony Gordon struggled to make an impact in the previous match.
Captain Harry Kane is expected to lead the attack once again, with Jude Bellingham operating behind the striker and Noni Madueke providing width. Bukayo Saka is also being managed carefully because of a minor Achilles issue and may begin the match on the bench.
Panama coach Thomas Christiansen is expected to retain his defensive 5-4-1 system despite the team's elimination. Midfielder Adalberto Carrasquilla remains unavailable with an adductor injury, while veteran captain Anibal Godoy is still working his way back to full fitness after making only a brief appearance at the tournament.
Experienced defender Amir Murillo will marshal the back line, while Jose Fajardo is expected to spearhead Panama's attack as they look to end the competition on a positive note.
The two nations have met only once before at the FIFA World Cup. England claimed a commanding 6-1 victory during the group stage of the 2018 tournament in Russia.
With greater squad depth and significantly more attacking quality, England enter the contest as clear favourites. A disciplined Panama defence could make life difficult, but the Three Lions will be confident of collecting all three points and carrying momentum into the knockout stage.
