Endrick Shines in Brazil Win Over Croatia, Eyes World Cup Spot

Posted : 01 April 2026

Brazilian youngster Endrick expressed a strong sense of urgency to impress after coming on in the 79th minute of Brazil’s friendly against Croatia on Tuesday. His contributions helped secure a 3-1 win, as he earned a penalty converted by Igor Thiago and assisted Gabriel Martinelli for the third goal.

“I felt a sense of urgency to perform well,” Endrick admitted. “After the message I got from my wife, all the pressure and fear melted away. I’m so grateful to her and to God—it was absolutely crucial.”

The 19-year-old made his Brazil debut in November 2023 but was omitted from all of Carlo Ancelotti’s squads during the first half of the 2025-26 season, following limited minutes at Real Madrid. His loan move to Lyon in December has revitalized his career, with six goals and five assists in 14 games, earning him a return to the national team.

Endrick did not play in Brazil’s 2-1 loss to France last week, adding to the pressure to perform when given the chance against Croatia. “Seeing my wife remind me that just being here was already a victory removed all the pressure,” he said. He also remains hopeful for a World Cup call-up, with Ancelotti set to announce the squad on May 18. “We will do everything for Brazil. Nothing speaks louder than hard work,” he added.

Ancelotti praised the young players’ performances after the Croatia match. “The newcomers have made the most of their opportunities. The whole group is pleased with the work done, including Endrick and Botafogo’s Danilo,” he said.

Captain Casemiro emphasized protecting young talent from intense national expectations. “We need to shield this squad, especially the young players. There’s a huge gap between older generations and now, so we need to enjoy the moments,” he said.

Since Ancelotti’s appointment in May last year, Brazil have had mixed results. Casemiro added: “It’s been a tough spell, but once the full squad is back, we’ll be strong. Brazil is always a breeding ground for top players.”

Brazil will face Panama at the Maracanã on May 31 before concluding their World Cup warm-up in the United States against Egypt in Cleveland on June 6.
