Eletu FC End NLO U-19 Campaign with 3-0 Win, Target Restructuring

Prince Kazeem Eletu Football Club ended their Nationwide League One (NLO) U-19 Youth League campaign on a positive note with a 3-0 victory over Right Vision FC at the New Maracana Stadium, Ajegunle, Lagos.

The result saw Eletu finish sixth in the Maracana Centre, which featured 10 teams, after recording four victories, two draws and three defeats from nine matches.

Despite the victory, the team’s overall performance fell short of the expectations of its coaches, management and supporters, who had hoped the side would secure the centre’s sole ticket to the playoff stage.

The club entered the competition with confidence following a series of impressive results in friendly matches during their preparations.

However, their league campaign was characterised by missed scoring opportunities and inconsistent performances, which ultimately affected their position on the table.

Head coach Isreal Adegolu expressed satisfaction with the team’s final-day performance but acknowledged that the players did not meet the club’s pre-season expectations.

“I am happy that we ended our NLO campaign on a bright note. Our expectation before the league was to get promotion from our zone. Unfortunately, the boys failed to meet the expectations,” Adegolu said.

He commended the players for their display against Right Vision, adding that the victory was a fitting way to conclude the campaign.

Some Eletu players also expressed delight with the victory and apologised to the club’s supporters for failing to secure the playoff ticket.

The players noted that the campaign was their first experience of the NLO U-19 competition and said the exposure would help them improve ahead of next season.

Meanwhile, the club’s General Manager, Eletu Muftau, admitted that the team’s sixth-place finish did not meet the management’s expectations.

He said the club would undertake a restructuring exercise to address the shortcomings identified during the campaign.

“Concerning our position in the just-concluded league, the management is not comfortable. There are some matches that we lost by ourselves, so I cannot say we did well,” Muftau said.

“Even if we don’t pick the sole ticket in our zone, the general performance of the team was not quite impressive. The team would be overhauled and restructured very soon.”

Muftau stressed that the club needed to restore its competitive standing among Lagos football teams, saying the management would take the necessary steps to strengthen the squad and improve its performance in future competitions.

For Eletu, the 3-0 victory provides a positive ending to a disappointing campaign, but the management’s planned restructuring suggests the club is already looking beyond the NLO U-19 season and towards a stronger return next year.
