2025/2026 NPFL Match Day 9 Preview: El-Kanemi Warriors Eye Victory Over Wikki Tourists in Northern Derby

El-Kanemi Warriors will seek redemption when they host Wikki Tourists in a heated Northern derby in Maiduguri.

The El-Kanemi Warriors FC will on Sunday host Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi at the El-Kanemi Warriors Stadium, Maiduguri, in what promises to be a fierce and entertaining Northern derby in the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The Desert Warriors will be looking to bounce back from their Match Day 8 defeat to Abia Warriors, as they aim to return to winning ways in front of their passionate home fans.

The last time both sides met was during their stint in the NNL, where El-Kanemi Warriors proved superior, securing a 2–0 home victory in Maiduguri, while the reverse fixture in Bauchi ended 1–1.

All eyes will be on Bilal Yakubu, the Bauchi-born right-back of El-Kanemi Warriors, as he faces his hometown club. The former Enyimba FC defender has been instrumental since joining the Warriors, recording eight assists so far — six in the previous season and two in the ongoing campaign.

This clash marks the first top-flight meeting between El-Kanemi Warriors and Wikki Tourists since the latter’s promotion back to the NPFL, setting the stage for a thrilling encounter in Maiduguri.
