Kehinde Olajuyin and Kamaru Adebari goals were enough to earn Ekiti FC a 2-1 victory over visiting Rovers FC of Calabar. The Nigeria National League (NNL) Match Day 7 was played at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti. Ekiti United hit the ground running from the blast of the whistle and was awarded a penalty in the 3rd minute when a Rovers FC player handled the ball inside the area.
The resultant penalty was, however, saved by Rovers FC goalkeeper Clinton Ezekiel, who calmly parried a Kehinde Olajuyin kick for a cornerkick. But Kehinde Olajuyin was quick to repay for the lost penalty in the 6th minute when he connected well with George Adedara's well-tailored pass from the right flank to head home the first goal for Kehinde Anjorin's side. Ekiti United went into the interval with a one-goal cushion.
On resumption, Ekiti United made two substitutions, with Pius Chikodi and Segun Ajengele replacing Olushola Oluwole and Odufu Noah. Segun Ajengele quickly made his impact in the 52nd minute when his header almost found the back of the net, but Clinton Ezekiel reacted well to cover his goal line area. The Samson Emmanuel side levelled the score in the 56th minute when Omolabi Owolabi rose highest to nod him from a corner.
Both teams began to search for the winner, but it was the home side that made the most of their chances when substitute Kamaru Adebari beat his maker inside the box to slot home the winner, sending the home bench into wide jubilation. Ekiti United goalkeeper Wale Makanjuola denied the visitors a late equalizer when he pushed a goal-bound long-range effort from a Rovers striker for a corner kick. Ekiti United will next face Vandrezzer on the road on matchday 8 in Uyo.
