NWFL 2023/24 season: Edo State Sports Commission Chairman, Yussuf Alli, charges Edo Queens to reignite winning mentality

The Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Yussuf Alli, an Olympian, has reaffirmed the state government's commitment to making Edo Queens Football Club one of the best on the continent.

Addressing the players during Tuesday's training session, the former Team Nigeria Captain charged the entire team to remain focused by reigniting the winning mentality for which Edo Queens is known.

He expressed confidence in the girls' ability to qualify for the NWFL Super 6, emphasizing that they are still in contention for the Super Six ticket despite their current position on the table.

"I'm very happy to be at your training ground this morning. I told your coach that I would come and watch you girls, and now I am here.

"I must tell you that we are not happy with the way things are going. We must, as a matter of fact, redirect our attention and be focused.

"We must reignite that winning mentality that we are known for. We have just five games to go, and we want to see ourselves swimming in victory.

"I don't believe in past glory; people want to rate you based on your current performance. So we must do something to show that we are potential NWFL champions."

"I commend you all for your resilience and determination in the past, but I want to say that all is not over yet. There is a lot to play for, and we are still in top contention for the Super 6. We want to go to the continental stage, and the management is confident that you have all it takes to represent Nigeria at the continental level. So we must not give up."

"I'm elated to inform you that the governor is totally committed to ensuring that Edo State regains her premier position in Nigerian sports.

"The governor is doing so much, so the only way to reciprocate his kind gesture is to win laurels for him.

"So I charge you all to approach your five remaining games with confidence and resolve."

"Again, feel free to approach your coaches whenever you have any issue troubling your mind. The management is totally committed to your welfare, and we do everything to ensure that you are living comfortably well.

"The government pays your match bonuses, allowances, and monthly salaries as at when due. As players, you must do your part to make your teeming fans happy."

"I want to say that henceforth, your away winning bonuses will be doubled, and the money will be paid by me. So go out there and make yourselves proud, make Edo State Government proud, and make your families proud," he said.
