The Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has praised Edo Queens Football Club for making the state proud following their successful regular season campaign, which ended on Wednesday evening with a 2-0 victory over Confluence Queens in Benin.
Precious Vincent and Emem Essien scored one goal each in the 28th and 34th minutes, respectively, to secure the win in the first half of the game and help the hosts finish Group A on a high note, having already secured Super Six qualification before their only loss to Nasarawa Amazons.
Enabulele, speaking after the match at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, expressed not only his admiration for the Benin Girls' 2-0 victory over Confluence Queens but also his happiness with their determination and strong character. He described them as real champions, having won 11 matches, drawn two, and suffered only one loss to finish top in Group A of the abridged league with 35 points.
The Chairman, while commending the team for their exceptional performance this season after their final game of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership regular season, urged them to carry their winning mentality into the Super Six in Ikenne. He encouraged them to replicate last season's success by retaining the premier league title and continuing to make Nigeria proud at the continental level.
"Let me congratulate the girls. Edo Queens have really made us proud this season. We want them to finish strong by retaining the title in Ikenne.
"As a matter of fact, they deserve government support, and we will continue to encourage them.
"The Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has graciously approved the Super Six budget for Edo Queens. So, all that they need in terms of government support for the final phase of the league is already in place, and I am confident the girls will not disappoint us."
Enabulele expressed confidence that Edo Queens will go to Ikenne and return with the premier league cup for the second time in a row.
Edo Queens will be in Lagos for the Federation's Cup Round of 16 fixture against Osun Babes FC this weekend before final preparations for the Super Six playoffs in Ikenne, Ogun State.
The Super Six tournament is scheduled for May 8-17.
