Edo Queens have stepped up preparations for the 2026 WAFU B Women's Champions League by strengthening their squad ahead of the regional tournament scheduled to take place in Burkina Faso.
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) champions will represent the country at the competition, which runs from August 25 to September 5. The tournament offers clubs the opportunity to qualify for the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League.
Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Desmond Amadin Enabulele, confirmed that the club is actively recruiting quality players to improve the squad ahead of the championship. He said discussions with several outstanding players from other clubs were at an advanced stage.
According to Enabulele, some of the targeted players have already agreed to join Edo Queens as the club aims to assemble a formidable squad capable of competing for the regional title.
"We are working very hard to build a formidable team. We have identified quality players from other clubs to strengthen the squad, and some of them have already agreed to join us," he said.
Enabulele credited the Edo State Government for its continued support of sports development, noting that Governor Monday Okpebholo has provided the backing needed for the team to prepare effectively for the competition.
He explained that the government's ambition goes beyond participating in the tournament, with the objective of building a side capable of dominating the WAFU B region before competing successfully at continental level.
"Our government is result-oriented, and we are doing everything possible to build a team that will not only conquer West Africa but also Africa by the grace of God," Enabulele added.
Edo Queens earned the right to represent Nigeria after emerging as champions of the Nigeria Women Football League. The Benin City-based club will now seek to continue its impressive progress by securing a place among Africa's elite women's clubs.
The WAFU B Women's Champions League serves as the qualifying tournament for the CAF Women's Champions League. Only the tournament winners will book a place at Africa's premier women's club competition later this year.
With recruitment efforts ongoing and preparations gathering momentum, Edo Queens will be aiming to assemble a squad capable of delivering another successful campaign and securing Nigeria's place in the 2026 CAF Women's Champions League.
