Edo Queens Get Financial Boost as Tenebe Targets WAFU-B Triumph

Edo Queens have received a morale and financial boost ahead of their WAFU-B play-off in Burkina Faso, with Edo State APC Chairman, Jarrett Tenebe, urging the Nigeria Women Football League champions to go all out for continental glory.

Tenebe, accompanied by the Executive Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Enabulele, visited the team’s camp at the weekend to fulfil a pledge he made to the players during the NWFL Super Six in Port Harcourt.

During the visit, the APC chairman presented a cash gift to the players and challenged them to build on their domestic success by conquering the WAFU-B play-off.

Tenebe said the team’s triumph in the NWFL Super Six against some of the country’s leading clubs demonstrated that Edo Queens possessed the quality and mentality required to compete at the continental level.

“We are very proud of you. Winning the league among six premiership giants shows we are ready for the continental challenge. Go to Burkina Faso and conquer again as you did in 2024,” Tenebe said.

He assured the players that they would have the necessary support to focus fully on their continental assignment.

According to him, the Edo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo, has put the required logistics in place to ensure a successful campaign.

Tenebe added that the governor was eagerly anticipating the team’s success and had set his sights on seeing Edo Queens lift the WAFU-B trophy.

The visit provided an additional source of motivation for the players as they intensify preparations for the regional competition.

Edo Queens, who emerged champions of the 2025/2026 NWFL season after a successful Super Six campaign in Port Harcourt, will represent Nigeria at the WAFU-B play-off in Burkina Faso.

The competition is a crucial step in the qualification pathway to the CAF Women’s Champions League, with Edo Queens hoping to secure the regional ticket and take their campaign to the next level.

With the backing of the Edo State Government and renewed motivation from the team’s supporters, Edo Queens will now look to translate their domestic dominance into continental success.
