Edo Queens Face Group B Draw at CAF Women’s Champions League if They Qualify

Posted : 21 October 2026

The draw was conducted in Cairo on Tuesday, October 20, ahead of the tournament scheduled to run from November 1 to 15 in Egypt. The WAFU Zone B representative remains undecided following the dispute over the original qualifying final.

Edo Queens initially appeared to have secured qualification after defeating Ampem Darkoa Ladies 4-1 on penalties following a 2-2 draw in the final played in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on September 5. However, Ampem Darkoa protested that the match officials had proceeded directly to penalties without the required extra time.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) upheld the protest and annulled the penalty shootout result. Its Appeal Board confirmed the decision on October 16, ruling that the match must resume from the start of extra time with the score at 2-2. The teams must play two 15-minute periods, followed by a new penalty shootout if the scores remain level.

An important scheduling update: The continuation is now expected to take place in Egypt on October 28 or 29, rather than October 24 in Burkina Faso, as initially reported. CAF is expected to confirm the exact date, venue and kick-off time.

If Edo Queens win the resumption, the Nigerian champions will take their place in Group B alongside AS FAR of Morocco, USFAS Bamako of Mali and Kawempe Muslim Ladies of Uganda. The group will present a demanding challenge, with AS FAR among the established contenders in African women's club football.

For Edo Queens, qualification would provide another opportunity to represent Nigeria on the continental stage. The club will need to settle the outstanding WAFU B final before turning its attention to the group-stage challenge.

Ampem Darkoa Ladies, meanwhile, remain in contention for the same place. The Ghanaian champions will also be seeking to secure their first appearance in the final tournament through the resumption of the disputed final.

The winner of the extra-time decider will represent WAFU Zone B at the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt. With the continental tournament approaching, the outcome of the unfinished final will determine which club joins the other qualified teams in the race for the African title.
