Edo Queens Beat Ibom Angels 2–1

Posted : 20 February 2026

Red-hot Edo Queens Football Club of Benin this evening proved their supremacy over Ibom Angels FC with an emphatic 2–1 win over the hard-fighting Ibom Ladies in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership match day three, played under closed doors at the Uyo Township Stadium, Akwa Ibom State.

Edo Queens winger Chioma Moses opened scoring for the Senator Monday Okpebholo ladies in the 2nd minute of play.

She sailed past the opponent’s defensive line-up with ease, trickishly putting the ball into the far corner of the right goalpost, beating goalkeeper Aret Godstime of Ibom Angels to it.

The early opener was devastating and shocking to both the players and officials of the Edwin Okon-led side.

Despite playing the match under closed doors, it is important to note that the game was tension-soaked, with fear and anxiety written on the faces of the two senior managers of both teams.

Edo Queens had total control of the game from start to finish but lost goal-scoring opportunities.

However, both teams showed respect for each other. Edo Queens had more possession of the ball than the host team.

Ibom Angels also made some dangerous advances, but their efforts met resistance as the defensive line-up of Edo Queens was up to their responsibilities.

The second half was full of action, and the momentum of the game increased. Edo Queens made some defensive mistakes, which gave Juliet John an opportunity to get an equalizer for Ibom Angels in the 56th minute of play, bringing the scoreline to 1–1.

Edo Queens also came out looking hungrier for goals, mounting more pressure on the host side.

In the 86th minute, Mary Mamudu's strike gave the Benin Queens the needed goal that finally devastated Ibom Angels.

With this victory, Edo Queens have now moved up the table.

They will be traveling to Port Harcourt to play Rivers Angels in their last game of the first stanza.

A win in that game will comfortably put the entire team in the right frame of mind for the last stage.

Edo Queens' manager Moses Aduku said: "Well, I have to thank God for this victory. I am happy my girls are back from the national camp. Ibom Angels are a good side. We would have wrapped up the game in the first half, but all the same, we got the three points, which is the most important thing."

"We still have some work to do. We must continue to correct ourselves in the areas we have not gotten right.

"We have a game next week against Rivers Angels. We are going with the same winning mentality. You know every team wants to win, especially those contesting the Super Six ticket with us. So thank God we got the three points."

For Edwin Okon, he said: "Well, this is not what we wanted. We planned for three points, but we lost it. That is the game of football for you.

"We thank God there were no injuries. We have to go back and fortify the team for the second round."

"Yes, you will say Edo Queens was better because they won, but I want to assure our fans that we will bounce back."
