Edo Queens Beat ASEC Mimosas 3-1 to Strengthen WAFU-B Qualification Bid

Edo Queens continued their strong start to the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU-B qualifiers with a 3-1 victory over ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire on Thursday. The Nigerian champions now have six points from two matches and are in a strong position to reach the next stage.

The match was played at the Stade du 4 Août in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Edo Queens had already opened their campaign with a 7-0 victory over AS Garde Nationale of Niger.

Oluwakemi Adegbuyi opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. The former Robo Queens forward powered a header into the net after Edo Queens created the opening from the flank.

Edo Queens doubled their advantage before half-time. Dooshima Tarnum finished a well-worked move in the 41st minute to give the Nigerian side a 2-0 lead at the interval.

ASEC Mimosas returned from the break with greater urgency and eventually reduced the deficit. Doudou Yeti scored in the 83rd minute, giving the Ivorian champions hope of forcing a late comeback.

Edo Queens remained composed under pressure and restored their two-goal advantage six minutes later. Substitute Oluebube Umajiaku reacted quickest to a rebound and scored in the 89th minute to complete the 3-1 victory.

The result is particularly significant because ASEC Mimosas entered the qualifiers as defending WAFU-B champions. However, the Ivorian club had already lost 1-0 to Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa in their opening Group B fixture.

Edo Queens now sit at the top of Group B with maximum points from their two matches. They have also scored 10 goals across those games, underlining their attacking strength in Ouagadougou.

Adegbuyi was named Player of the Match after her goal helped set Edo Queens on their way. Her contribution added to a disciplined team performance as the Nigerian champions controlled the key moments of the contest.

Edo Queens will conclude their group campaign against Ampem Darkoa Ladies on August 30. The Ghanaian side began the competition with a 1-0 win over ASEC, making the final group fixture a key test for the Nigerian champions.
