Reigning Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) champions Edo Queens FC have arrived in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, ahead of the 2026 CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers for the WAFU-B zone.
The 2024 WAFU-B champions touched down in the Burkina Faso capital at about 6 p.m. on Friday aboard an Air Côte d’Ivoire flight, before settling into the Splendid Hotel as they turn their attention to the continental challenge ahead.
The Benin City-based side wasted little time getting into competitive mode, holding their first training session in Ouagadougou from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday under the guidance of head coach Kennedy Boboye.
Edo Queens have been drawn in Group B alongside ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire, Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC of Ghana and AS Garde Nationale of Niger in the seven-team WAFU-B qualifying tournament.
Group A comprises hosts USFAS of Burkina Faso, Dynamique FC of Benin Republic and ASOK Da-Kara Féminines of Togo.
The Nigerian champions will begin their campaign on Monday, August 24, when they face AS Garde Nationale of Niger at the Stade 4 Août. The encounter is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m.
With the tournament scheduled to begin on August 23, Edo Queens will be aiming to reproduce the form that saw them emerge as WAFU-B champions in 2024 and secure another opportunity to compete on Africa’s biggest stage.
The ultimate prize is a ticket to the CAF Women’s Champions League finals in South Africa later this year, setting the stage for an intense battle among West Africa’s leading women’s clubs.
For Edo Queens, the mission is clear: make their continental experience count and once again prove their credentials as one of West Africa’s finest women’s football sides.
